The education secretary said the administration seeks to shift postsecondary education to low-cost, high-value programs.
The Department of Education announced a final rule for the Workforce Pell Grant program under the 2025 Working Families Tax Cuts Act. Pell Grants can now be awarded for enrollment in short-term educational courses that prepare students for high-salaried and in-demand jobs. As part of America’s Talent Strategy, the move prioritizes career and technical education (CTE).
“The Trump Administration’s postsecondary education agenda is straightforward: we should shift away from high-cost, low-value programs to low-cost, high-value programs,” said Education Secretary Linda McMahon. “Americans should not have to spend years in college and take on debt they may never be able to repay before entering the workforce. Under President Trump’s leadership, American students will soon be able to graduate with little to no debt and be well-prepared to start earning in one of today’s in-demand jobs in weeks, not years.”
The new rule provides students with an educational alternative to the traditional four-year college path. Governors are requested to help determine eligible workforce programs by identifying high-demand careers in their states that have strong economic returns.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Secretary McMahon as she seeks to help the next generation of American workers find meaningful employment in important industries.
- For state governors as they review their local job markets for eligible Pell Grant program recommendations.
